About Martha
Martha Curgin was an inspirational figure noted for her "outside the box" thinking and her ability to "move mountains", getting things done that others believed couldn't be done. She was a trailblazer with groundbreaking ideas.
Sadly, Martha passed away in 2003. However, she will be remembered for her dedication to our community.
Martha was an individual who continually inspired people through personal example and by recognizing and championing others. Even if the effort was in the smallest of ways, Martha took the time to recognize and encourage further endeavours towards excellence. Most importantly, she also inspired others to do the same; a key philosophy in building London Health Sciences Foundation (LHSF) into the exceptional organization it is today.
Martha guided the success of many strategic initiatives, including the establishment of Victoria Hospital Foundation and the merger of University and Victoria Hospital Foundations into LHSF. She was the inaugural Executive Director of LHSF; a position since renamed to "President and Chief Executive Officer."
Martha was recognized with a YMCA-YWCA "Women of Distinction" award in 2001 in "Business, Professions and Trades" for her exceptional accomplishments in health care philanthropy.
The Martha Curgin Inspiration Award recognizes ordinary individuals - staff members, physicians, dentists, midwives or volunteers - who provide extraordinary service to London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC).
