2011 - Linda Brickwood
The 2011 recipient of the Martha Curgin Inspiration Award is Linda Brickwood.
Linda's nomination made it clear that she is an exceptional person and an inspiration to many. As the clinical leader of the IV team at University Hospital she was a pioneer, an advocate, a role model and a teacher in her field.
Linda was one of the driving forces behind the creation of the Home Total Parenteral Nutrition (TPN) Program. This patient-centred care program increases safety in the home-care regimen by teaching patients and the families of patients who are discharged home, while still fed through IV, how to maintain proper nutrition and line maintenance.
During her career, Linda engaged people easily, compassionately and respectfully, instilling confidence in patients and their families alike. She instilled the same confidence in the professionals she taught and worked with. Her skills and advice were constantly sought by others in the hospital regarding difficult IV challenges.
"By achieving her successes with the same spirit that Martha exhibited, Linda Brickwood is indeed a worthy recipient of this prestigious award," says LHSF Chair Kirk Baines.
