Charles George Drake is a giant in the history of medicine in London. He earned international acclaim in the 1960’s when he developed a surgical technique treating aneurysms – defects in the arteries of the brain that cause strokes. The procedure has since been taught to surgeons around the world. Working with his close friend Dr. Henry J.M. Barnett, Dr. Drake made London a leading international centre for the diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the nervous system.
An inaugural member of the Canadian Medical hall of fame, Dr. Charles Drake was named a Companion of the Order of Canada shortly before his death in 1998. |
