Research
Lawson Health Research Institute is one of Canada's largest and most respected hospital-based research institutes.
As the research institute of London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) and St. Joseph's Health Care, London, and in partnership with The University of Western Ontario, Lawson is committed to furthering scientific knowledge to advance health care around the world.
At Lawson, a "bench-to-bedside" approach to medical research is encouraged. This means that Lawson researchers focus their efforts on the development of knowledge that can be applied directly to patient care in our hospitals.
Lawson is focused on a number of ongoing strategic research projects involving multi-disciplinary research teams including:
- The Lifecycle Research Network
- Non-invasive Molecular Imaging
- Translational Cancer Research Program
- Centre for Clinical Investigation and Therapeutics
Projects like these continue to lead the way, pioneering scientific discoveries such as the world's first closed-chest, robotic-assisted beating heart coronary artery bypass graft (1999), North America's first removal of a renal artery aneurysm with the help of a da Vinci surgical robot (2004) and Canada's first robotically-assisted radical hysterectomy (2008).
