London, Ont. - This year's New Year's baby was born four minutes after midnight, weighing 6 lbs 2 oz. Baby Alejandro is the son of Anna Dyckwall and Henry Harms.

Baby Alejandro is the first New Year's baby to be born in London Health Sciences Centre's new North Tower at Victoria Hospital. The hospital's obstetrical care unit moved into their brand new space in the Grace Donnelly Women's Health Pavilion at Victoria Hospital in June 2011, as part of the transfer of all obstetrical care services from St. Joseph's Hospital to LHSC.

"We are thrilled to welcome baby Alejandro as the first baby to be born at our new North Tower in 2012," says Bonnie Adamson, LHSC president and CEO. "We wish baby Alejandro and his family best wishes for a happy and healthy life."

To mark the happy occasion, London Shoppers Drug Mart Stores sent their own congratulations and generously donated a gift basket to baby Alejandro's family.

A representative for the stores' pharmacist/owners says that they are pleased to partner with LHSC in welcoming the first baby of the New Year to London. "As a part of our ongoing commitment to the health and well-being of women in our community, this partnership is just one of the many ways in which we strive to give back to our community."

"We would like to thank Shoppers Drug Mart for their generosity," says Dan Ross, London Health Sciences Foundation president and CEO. "Their commitment to our community is aptly illustrated with their support of LHSC, including partnering with our foundation at fundraising events like the Country Classic Auction and with these gifts to London's first baby of 2012."

In addition to the Shoppers Drug Mart gift basket, Children's Health Foundation included a teddy bear and LHSF contributed a handmade baby blanket for the first-born baby of the New Year.
