  • At LHSC, more than 1,300 implant procedures are performed annually, making our hospital one of the largest joint reconstruction centres in Canada
  • Joint replacement surgery tends to be very successful, with a 95-per-cent success rate, and complications occur infrequently; for the majority of patients, their prostheses will last a lifetime

Located at University Hospital, the orthopaedics program includes joint replacement, sport medicine, biomechanics, minimally-invasive surgery, and imaging and rehabilitation. Along with the renowned clinical and educational programs, research activities have received international recognition.

  • The Joint Replacement Institute is recognized as one of the world's top centres for joint replacement surgery, education and research
  • The Fowler Kennedy Sport Medicine Clinic is recognized as one of North America's top centres for sport medicine care, education, prevention and research
  • The Brent and Marilyn Kelman Centre for Advanced Learning will be the Canadian Surgical Technologies & Advanced Robotics (CSTAR) high-tech home of surgical skills and robotic training, including orthopaedics and joint replacement surgery
  • The Dr. Sandy Kirkley Musculoskeletal Research Centre will house a multitude of diverse orthopaedic research teams, investigating everything from sport medicine and biomechanics to joint replacement and advanced surgical techniques
