The North Tower: Building for the Future

London Health Sciences Centre's (LHSC) Redevelopment initiative will result in a modern, state-of-the-art healthcare environment that will improve accessibility, consolidate services, facilitate patient flow and reduce wait times. While the provincial government will be funding the vast majority of this expansive project, London Health Sciences Foundation is excited and proud to take on the responsibility of raising the remaining public share in the areas of Women's Health, Mental Health, Surgery, Medicine Services and Medical Imaging.

Of all the Redevelopment initiatives that have taken place and continue to take shape at hospital sites across London, none are more ambitious or set to change healthcare in our community more than the new North Tower. This state-of-the-art, 10-storey, 465,000-square-foot facility at Victoria Hospital was designed and built to provide coordinated, comprehensive healthcare for the entire region. It was also designed to ensure LHSC staff members have access to the best tools and facilities so that they can continue to deliver world-class healthcare.

The exterior and initial work on the unfinished interior of the North Tower was completed during the first two stages of Redevelopment. Now, during the final stage, we are working towards equipping the North Tower so that this one-of-a-kind healthcare facility can be at full capacity and serving the needs of our patients and their families by 2012.

The facility will be home to more than 17 different healthcare programs including:

  • The Grace Donnelly Women's Health Pavilion is the first facility of its kind in Canada, purpose-built to bring women's and children's services together in one location within a comfortable, home-like environment focusing on collaborative, research driven, evidence-based healthcare. Located on Levels Four and Five of the North Tower, the new space will serve more than 350 women every day and offer everything a woman needs in a single facility, including birthing and female reproductive health.
  • The Mental Health Care Program will serve adult inpatients – as well as child and adolescent inpatients and outpatients – and care for those with the most urgent mental health issues. The new space on Levels Seven and Eight of the North Tower will reflect the quality of mental healthcare in London and will mark the first time in the history of LHSC where all acute Mental Health Care services for both children and adults are located in the same facility.
