Doctor Inspired by Colleagues
As Chair/Chief and Medical Director, Critical Care Western & London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC), Dr. Claudio Martin has had the chance to see firsthand how funds raised through London Health Sciences Foundation (LHSF) have benefited our Hospital. Beyond his personal belief in leading by example when it comes to the support of important public institutions like the arts and public health care, Dr. Martin has also been inspired to give by his colleagues.
Dr. Martin began giving to the Foundation and directing his support to the program of his choice after receiving a Physicians Changing Lives appeal from Dr. John Denstedt, Chair/Chief, Department of Surgery, Schulich School of Medicine & Dentistry, several years ago. Dr. Martin started by making modest gifts on a monthly basis to perfectly fit his discretionary spending budget.
In the years since he started giving, Dr. Martin found further inspiration from his colleagues and began to gradually increase the amount of his gifts. After the passing of Frank Rutledge, Dr. Martin was motivated to lead the fundraising for the Dr. Frank S. Rutledge Award for Excellence in Critical Care Teaching and, in turn, increase his own level of giving.
While everyone has their own personal reason for giving, physician-donors like Dr. Martin see and understand the impact philanthropy makes at our Hospital and in our community on a daily basis.
