2024 marks the 7th year of Murray's Miles! With over $130,000 raised so far, this event continues to raise much-needed funds for esophageal cancer at London Health Sciences Centre's (LHSC) London Regional Cancer Program. Join us on this 5 km walk/run to celebrate this milestone year and help us continue raising the bar.

Did you know that 2,400 Canadians will be diagnosed with esophageal cancer each year and 2,300 will die from it?

Because of this event, the team at LHSC has been able to purchase a new ultrasound machine, which is helping to diagnose and inform treatment options for patients.  The prognosis of esophageal cancer is strongly associated with its stage. As a result, accurate clinical staging is critical for selecting appropriate treatment options. Endoscopic ultrasounds play a central role in the initial staging of esophageal cancer and may also be useful for detecting disease recurrence.

“We perform several ultrasounds per day,” Dr. Malthaner says. “They are now almost as common a diagnostic tool as stethoscopes – but with many more capabilities. They allow us to properly diagnose our patients so that we can avoid surgery when possible to provide the least invasive interventions. The Insley family’s generous support makes this possible."
